Meet Josh & Mikaela

For over a decade, Josh and Mikaela have been delighting the Mornington Peninsula with their unique food truck offerings.

Josh, our talented chef (though he prefers the title “cook”), is largely self-taught and has honed his skills in various local hospitality venues. While he modestly avoids the title “pitmaster,” his exceptional talent for smoking meats speaks for itself.

Mikaela is the heart of our operations, managing everything from marketing to customer service and administration. With a background in Event Management and extensive experience in wedding planning, she ensures everything runs smoothly.

Our journey began in 2014 when we decided to leave our hospitality jobs and start our own venture. Josh’s fascination with smoking meats using an off-set Texan-style smoker BBQ set the stage. At the time, American low and slow BBQ and food trucks were just gaining popularity, and we saw an opportunity to stand out.  Thus, “Roast N’ Roll” was born

Our Journey

We started our adventure at local markets like Frankston Sunday Market and Boneo Community Market, where we first got our chance to shine. With limited funds we hit the road in Mum’s old Mitsubishi Magna with Josh quickly mastering the art of towing and parking our food trailer.

We eagerly participated in every festival and market on the Peninsula and began to take on private catering bookings.  As our confidence grew, so did our menu, thanks to special requests that became staples like our house-made cheeseburgers, sliders and fries.

The increasing demand for wedding catering led us to invest in a second van, designed to appeal aesthetically to this market.

Then, COVID-19 hit, bringing events and catering to a halt. We adapted by turning our food truck into a takeaway shop right in our driveway, promoting ourselves through flyer drops to neighbours and local Facebook pages.

Seeking new ways to operate, we appealed to the council and were granted a site at Safety Beach Foreshore. We operated there for two years, navigating the ups and downs of the pandemic.

Our new van finally arrived, and with the surge in outdoor wedding bookings, we began running two vans simultaneously. When we struggled to find another chef for consistent work, Mikaela stepped up and now cooks in the vans too!

Ten years on and we’re still going strong, serving tasty food and creating memorable experiences. Come and enjoy our delicious offerings, where every bite tells a story of passion and dedication.
